What types of clinical waste do you collect?

Do you supply containers?
Yes, all sharps bins, yellow bags, orange bags and rigid containers are supplied free of charge as part of your service agreement.
How often do you collect?
We offer flexible collection schedules including weekly, fortnightly, monthly and ad-hoc collections. We will recommend the best frequency based on your waste volume.
Compliance
Are you registered with the Environment Agency?
Yes, MediWaste is a registered upper tier waste carrier with the Environment Agency. We are audited annually and hold all required licences.
What documentation do you provide?
We provide waste transfer notes or hazardous waste consignment notes for every collection, issued within 48 hours. Records are maintained for the statutory minimum of two years.
Getting Started
How quickly can you start collections?
We can usually begin collections within 7 days of your initial enquiry. In urgent cases, we may be able to arrange a first collection sooner.

Can I switch from my current waste contractor?
Yes, we manage the entire transition process. We coordinate with your existing contractor to collect any remaining containers, deliver our own containers and begin collections with minimal disruption. Most practices switch in under 7 days.
Do you offer emergency or ad-hoc collections?
Yes, we offer emergency collections for urgent situations such as container overflow or unexpected waste volume increases. Call us on 0800 046 9806 to arrange an emergency collection.
How do I know which waste goes in which container?
We provide a free waste segregation guide as part of your service agreement, and our team will advise you during your initial consultation. The guide covers all colour-coded containers and which waste streams belong in each one.
What happens to my waste after collection?
All clinical waste is transported to licensed treatment facilities. Infectious waste is treated by alternative treatment or incineration, sharps are incinerated, pharmaceutical waste is incinerated, and anatomical waste is incinerated. We provide certificates of disposal on request.
